Features.
VFX Nexus has been central to the success of more than 20 feature films as well as numerous television and commercial productions.
Dashboard
The Dashboard acts as a user's personal home page to view his/her assigned shots, tasks, or recent messages with shortcuts to details for any single item.
Administrators and supervisors can choose to view the Dashboard of any user to check their work assignments and status.
Files new!
You can now attach any type of file to any message/task within a shot, eliminating any confusion as to which is the most up to date file needed. All uploaded files can be viewed within each message/task to which they were initially attached within the shot detail page (in blog style format) or conveniently at the files tab.
There's no practical limit to the number of files that can be attached within each shot. The first gigabyte of storage is included with every account and additional space may be added for small monthly fee. Files are stored and delivered using Content Delivery Networks for the quickest download speeds available.
Project Creation
Have a number of different projects your company/team is working on? VFX Nexus offers unlimited Projects within each VFX Nexus account.
Users can see all of their assignments across any number of projects together or they can view their assignments within a single project with a click of the mouse. Administrators have total control over which users and teams have access to a project and what shots they can see.
Once projects are in full swing Administrators have the invaluable ability to sort, search and organize shots by user, status, due date, priority, team and more using our convenient search/sort tool across projects or within a single project.
User Permissions
Create any number of user types. Permissions can be set to allow or restrict access to specific areas and features of VFX Nexus.
Access can also be controlled by Teams or Users on a project by project basis to keep prying eyes out of specific areas due to client or company policies.
Every VFX Nexus account has the ability to enable Teams to group users and shots for further control. For instance, an outside team can be allowed to see all shots assigned to them within that team, but would not be able to see anything outside of those assignments. The use of Teams is optional, and can be turned off if they are not relevant to your studio.
Shots and Tracking
Shots are at the heart of every Project and the shot detail page is where all the relevant shot information in conveniently displayed for the user.
The primary feature of the shot detail page is the message log. This works like a mini-blog for each shot, allowing artists and supervisors to list requests, notes, comments, and changes as the shot progresses.
Files, URLs and embeddable links can also be attached to messages for quick sharing of any asset or reference.
Any number of users can be assigned to a shot, and each of these can have their specific role specified. User Permissions apply to all shot information and only authorized users can set the status of a shot - no sneaking anything past a supervisor.
Understanding that different organizations use different terminology to determine shot status and versions within their workflow, we've given Administrators total control over these critical terms.
Finally, VFX Nexus makes it easy to quickly add shots so work can begin. Add up to 20 shots at one time, as well as thumbnail images and files with just a couple clicks.
Task Assignments
VFX Nexus is focused on the progress of shots. However, there are many components required to finish those shots. These are classified as Tasks.
Model creation, mocap filtering, rotoscoping, data I/O, digitizing footage and/or preparing a dailies session can be assigned and scheduled through Tasks.
Tasks are tracked and receive feedback just like shots. Tasks may be associated with a shot, or a task may stand on its own.
Knowledge Base
At last, a place to keep all your project text, reference, documentation, policies, procedures, or even the favorite lunch spots of the crew.
The Knowledge Base is designed to help keep all workers informed of best practices while performing their work.
With this feature, a persistence of information is maintained. Having one point of reference keeps artists from having to shuffle through the network for various sources of documentation.
Calendar Integration
Production is very time sensitive—every artist, supervisor, and producer knows this.
The Calendar creates an at-a-glance view of all projects, tasks, and shots on their due date. A click on an entry within a date reveals the details page for that assignment.
Enterprise Class
VFX Nexus is truly an enterprise class application. It is hosted using some of the latest server technology, making it free from a single point of failure. It doesn't get slower under heavy use - instead it makes use of cloud technologies to employ more server capacity to maintain performance.
One of the greatest strengths of VFX Nexus is its access-anywhere capability. With VFX Nexus, your studio can track shots within one office, or multiple studios can collaborate worldwide to work on your projects. Remote studios and freelancers can all reference and update the same data and notes wherever they have access to the internet.
There's no need to download or install any software or involve an IT department to deploy this system. The application requires no maintenance on the part of our customers and any update or upgrade is automatically and seamlessly integrated into each instance of VFX Nexus.
All data is automatically backed up daily for quick recovery and insurance of safety.
Security and Support
All VFX Nexus customers have their own subdomain on servers controlled and backed up by VFX Nexus.
Each site is accessed by a browser with a URL that looks similar to this https://mystudio.vfxnexus.com.
Data cannot be gleaned by others as it travels over the Internet, as it is protected by an https:// transport, which requires the end user's browser and our servers to encrypt all data as it is transmitted over the Internet.
Each user has a unique username, usually a company email address, as assigned by your VFX Nexus admin. The accounts are password protected, and this password is encrypted during transmission and storage.
VFX Nexus offers support via email and phone. Documentation is provided during sign up, and screencasts are available to demonstrate the use and features of VFX Nexus.
